DR. R. L. VAUGHAN ATRIUM

Home of The Belleville Sports Hall of Fame

In the history of hockey in Belleville, it is fair to say that Dr. Robert L. Vaughan was a visionary in building the sport within, and beyond, his community. In 1981 he played a key role in bringing the Ontario Hockey League to Belleville, when the Belleville Bulls began to play at the Yardmen Arena. Throughout his time as the owner of the Belleville Bulls "Doc's" leadership was evident in his role as the Chairman of the Board of Governors for the Ontario Hockey League. During that time the game became safer for the players and more attractive to the fans.

In 1993, the Ontario Hockey League presented "Doc" with the "Bill Long Award", in recognition of "Outstanding Contributions and Dedication to the Development of Junior Hockey".

In 1992, he was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the 125^th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation for having made a significant contribution to his community and fellow Canadians.

In 2017, the generosity of Dr. R. L. Vaughan and his family greatly supported the Belleville Sports Hall of Fame in its relocation to the Dr. R. L. Vaughan Atrium in the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.

Our community is forever indebted to "Doc" for his leadership in growing sport in our community.
